The inspiration for Primrose Wood came after the family attended the natural burial of a close friend in another county. Deeply moved by the experience and the ethos behind natural burial, they felt inspired to create a similar place on their own land — somewhere people of all faiths, or none, could choose a gentle, nature-centred alternative to conventional burial. Since then, they have been researching, planning, applying for permissions, collecting and sowing wildflowers, planting trees, and carefully considering what people need at a time of loss and grief.
Over time, Primrose Wood will grow into a diverse broadleaved woodland, with meandering paths, open glades, and peaceful spaces where visitors can sit, remember, and reflect. The vision is to create a spiritual and tranquil sanctuary that supports both the living and the departed, while allowing the landscape to develop and flourish for generations to come. As a burial ground committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship, Primrose Wood offers a way for people to leave a lasting legacy that is in harmony with the natural world.
Although the site is still being prepared ahead of opening, the care and thought behind the project are already clear. Supported in part by the Rural Business Growth Fund, the team has been able to invest in essential groundwork, including fencing, tree planting, and equipment needed to bring the vision to life. Primrose Wood promises to be not only a dignified and peaceful resting place, but also a place of beauty, remembrance, and renewal in the Suffolk landscape.
